Musical Works Inspired by space

Dr. Miller’s research focuses on astronomy-based works and their central inspirations. Works such as The Planets, by Gustav Holst, are inspired by mythological or astrological ideas associated with space. Other works, such as A Starlit Dome by John Pickard, are inspired by the feelings of awe and wonder humans often feel when gazing at the night sky. There are also works in which the composer is inspired by the physical characteristics of the object(s) itself. This latter category is of specific interest to Dr. Miller, who went into further detail in his doctoral lecture recital, posted below, and his final document.
